Cypriot authorities reported on the flow of tourists

The flow of tourists to Cyprus in the first nine months of 2022 was 720 thousand people less than in the pre-decade 2019, travelers from Russia in the statistics are not.

Data on tourist arrivals were published by the statistical service of Cyprus Cystat.

In September 2022, 413,382 tourists arrived on the island, an increase of 21.9 percent from a year earlier.

According to Cystat, between January and September 2022, the number of guests was 2,540,554; earlier in the same period, Cyprus received about 1.3 million vacationers. By comparison, more than 3.26 travelers visited the island during this period in 2019.

The main source of tourism in June 2022 was the United Kingdom, which accounted for 41.1 percent (169,799) of the total number of guests. Travelers from Israel accounted for 8.5 percent (35,013) of the flow, 5.5 percent (22,922) from Poland, 5.4 percent (22,244) from Germany and 4.5 percent (18,802) from Greece.

The statistics do not include travelers arriving and departing illegally through ports and airports in the occupied territory of the island. Northern Cyprus resorts are very popular with Europeans.

Due to sanctions, the island has lost 800 thousand of our compatriots this year. In July, Minister of Tourism of Cyprus Savvas Perdios said that the authorities managed to make up about 25 percent of this loss, to attract about 200 thousand tourists from other countries. According to Perdios, 2019 was a record year for the hospitality industry, then managing to host four million guests.

Cyprus was one of the most popular foreign destinations for Russian tourists, they ranked second in the number of arrivals to the island after the British and accounted for about 20 percent of the total flow.
